Overview
The 2012 edition of the annual Merdeka Golf tournament was held on Sunday December 9th at the Imperial Golf Karawachi. We had a total of 122 guests, from all over the world.
For this years’ tournament the organizing committee had only about a month to organize this event. Despite the short period, we received strong support and generosity from our sponsors, without which this event would not have been possible.
To enlighten and change the tempo for the final 3 top-prizes, we showcased the ‘BINGO’ game, whereby all participants who bought the bingo cards, stand a chance to win these prizes, and at the same time, donating to a charity.
The bingo-cards were sold in a set of 3-pieces/pack for RP100,000 each. Within less than 30 minutes, we sold off all the bingo cards and collected slightly over RP100 juta. What a pleasant surprise. Golfers are truly charitable guys.
All eyes and ears were on this man singing, picking and calling out the lucky numbers, while another lighted this large number-board, of the number that was picked. The songs were entertaining and hilarious at times. Even a Hindustani song was dished out.
Everyone had a great time and truly enjoyed the bingo game. It was the finale to an enjoyable outing.
Our Dato’ Ambassador, who was present to give the opening remarks and to give away prizes, congratulated us, saying “Thank you, job very well done”.
Financials
Time was really short and by the time we emailed the sponsorship letters it was less than 3 weeks to the tournament date. Despite all odds, the committee put focus and efforts to personally call the sponsors and successfully received over RP350juta.
Just 2 days before the event, we were asked to make full settlement to the club amounting to RP198 juta. I called Pak Hazmi and Pak Halim, for a loan of RP100 juta, which both agreed (to be reimbursed asap by KESUMA). But then, we were still short of RP98 juta.
As the show must go on, I personally advanced RP20juta and another RP78 juta was loaned from Pak Sheikh Derabi. It’s the spirit and commadarie among MCJ members that’s most treasured. Help when needed, in kind. A big thank you.
A comprehensive accounting is currently being prepared by KESUMA. Any profit will be shared equally between KESUMA and MCJ.
