Having been in the vegetarian business for over 20 years, Dharma Kitchen surely knows its patron’s taste from the dishes to the decor. Stepping into any of the two restaurant, there’s an immediate sense of zen and tranquility. The employees seem happy to be there and always ready to help you with questions on the menu which can be a bit daunting for first timers.
Offering eclectic type of dishes from Indonesian, Chinese, to Western certainly ensure diners to always have something new to choose from and savor. Among these selections, some of the crowd’s favorites are the Sate Manis Saus Kecap, Golden Enoki, Fried Taro Mix Vegetables, and Steak Tempe. The texture of the satay is almost identical to the actual meat satay with a really well-blended peanut sauce. The Golden Enoki which is basically fried enoki mushroom that’s well seasoned. It’s the vegetarian ‘guilty’ pleasure. Fried Taro Mix Vegetables is like Bird’s Nest in chinese cuisine. It’s a good combination of different kind of stir-fried vegetables served on a wall of fried taro. Steak Tempe is tempe served steak style on a sizzling platter.
Most of the savory menu is vegan with the exceptions of a few items that contain eggs which they are duly noted. The drinks selection comes in dizzying colors, mix, and interesting names.
The main restaurant in Pluit (North Jakarta) has a very cozy bakery which offers plenty of vegan desserts and bread. It supplies to the other locations in Central Park Mall and Senayan City Mall outlet. Their bread is superb with fluffy, freshly-baked texture and vegan filling that can easily surpass regular bread. There’s a good selection of made-to-order whole vegan cakes. Perfect place to celebrate a healthy birthday!
